Senate Concurrent Resolution 612

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AMY TUCK FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE AS SECRETARY OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

WHEREAS, Amy Tuck has announced her resignation as Secretary of the Mississippi Senate in order to seek the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor; and

WHEREAS, her resignation brings to a conclusion three years of tireless service and commitment to the 52 Senators who serve in the Mississippi Senate; and

WHEREAS, in the Senate's top administrative job since January 1996, Amy Tuck has effectively supervised staff and overseen day-to-day operations of the agency; and

WHEREAS, prior to her appointment as Secretary of the Senate, Amy Tuck served as a state Senator from 1991 to 1996, representing the citizens of Choctaw, Montgomery, Oktibbeha and Webster Counties; and

WHEREAS, Amy Tuck's tenure as a state Senator is noted by her appointment as Chairman of the County Affairs Committee (1992-1996), and her earnest involvement in the passage of a bill to establish a county bridge replacement and repair program; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, Amy Tuck chose not to seek re-election as a state Senator, opting instead to run for Secretary of State; and

WHEREAS, during the February 4, 1999, Senators' reunion ceremony, Amy Tuck was voted to receive the 1999 Senate Distinguished Service Award by ballot of all present and former members of the Senate; and

WHEREAS, she is well known for her common sense, good nature and irrepressible sense of humor, all of which will be missed by her colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Amy Tuck has distinguished herself as a highly respected administrator and has served in a manner which will be an exceptional model for her successors to emulate; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the exemplary service of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Secretary Amy Tuck for her dedicated service with the Mississippi Senate and the State of Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Amy Tuck and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
